Find Your Suzuki Outboard Serial Number

Why You Need Your Serial Number

Your Suzuki outboard's serial number is the most reliable way to identify your exact engine model, year of manufacture, and specification. Using the correct serial number ensures you order the right parts first time.

Where to Find Your Serial Number

1. The Transom Clamp Bracket (Primary Location)

The easiest and most common place to find your serial number is on the ID plate mounted on the transom clamp bracket — the metal part that attaches the motor to your boat's stern.

  • Location: Look on the starboard (right) side of the transom bracket assembly when viewed from behind the motor.
  • What you'll see: A small metal plate showing your motor's model name (e.g., DF60A) along with the serial number sequence.

2. The Engine Block (Backup Location)

If the plate on the clamp bracket has faded or worn off, the serial number is also stamped directly on the engine block.

  • Location: Remove the top engine cowling and look on the port (left) side of the engine block when viewed from behind the motor.
  • What you'll see: A small stamped metal disc with the serial number engraved directly into it.

How to Read Your Suzuki Tag

Your Suzuki ID plate contains two important pieces of information:

  • Model Description — Identifies the horsepower and specific features of your engine (e.g., DF200A).
  • Serial Number — A unique identifier consisting of a 5-digit prefix, a letter, followed by a hyphen and another 6 digits.
    Example: 20003F-640887

Tips for Recording Your Serial Number

  • Clean the ID plate with a damp cloth before reading — salt buildup and corrosion can obscure the numbers.
  • Take a photo of the plate and save it to your phone for future reference.
  • Always record both the model description and the serial number — both are needed when ordering parts.
