Operational Logic

Unlike standard single-wire safety switches that only trigger a warning buzzer, this port-side switch features a dual-wire configuration:

• Fast Start System Control: It sends critical engine-block climate data back to the outboard's power pack ignition controller.
• Automatic Idle Calibration: When the engine is cold, the controller uses this sensor's data to activate the Fast Start function, advancing the timing to increase idle speed. Once the sensor registers that the powerhead has reached normal operating temperature, it signals the controller to drop the idle back to normal.
• The “Cold Engine” Fault: If this specific port switch fails or open-circuits, the computer will falsely assume the engine is permanently cold. This results in a classic symptom: the motor will constantly idle way too high and never drop down.
