Maintenance Importance

Internal cooling passages are highly susceptible to saltwater corrosion. Sacrificial button anodes inside the cylinder block water jackets must be inspected and replaced regularly (typically every 100 hours or annually). Because these covers seal direct cooling water channels, the factory service manual mandates replacing this compressed rubber gasket every time you remove the cover to prevent high-pressure water leaks inside the engine cowling.
