What Does This Seal Do?
The propeller shaft oil seal prevents gearbox oil from leaking out around the propeller shaft and stops water from entering the lower unit. A worn or damaged propeller shaft seal can lead to gearbox oil contamination, water ingress, and ultimately gearbox failure. It should be replaced whenever the lower unit is serviced or if oil leakage is detected around the propeller shaft.
